After a long history as a high school, the Middlebranch building was made a junior high school in the Plain Local School District in 1957 when Glenwood became the high school for the district. Middlebranch housed grades seven, eight, and nine until 1967 when the ninth grade was transferred to the Glenwood building. A junior high school and middle school with 7th and 8th grades from 1967 to 1978, Middlebranch received the 6th grade students from the elementary schools in 1978 to remain a middle school.
